Additional The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1) Information

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

What Customers Say About The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1):

It wasn't like the Pendragon series, which got worse throughout the series. I thought The Lightning Thief was a fantastic book to start a series. I can't even think of anything negative to say about this book. I liked how the characters were very important and memorable. It was a page-turner book that just got better and better throughout the series. If you like the first book, continue the series. Anyone who likes hip-type, funny, n magic and god relating books, READ THIS BOOK.

i think that this book is even better than all of the harry potter books combined. its amazing how its fun entertaining yet still teaches you about greek mythology in a way that you don't learning until someone askes you a question and you can answer with no hesitation. its great how they make the book seem like it could happen. but it did't. i think everyone should read it even if you think it may be chiledish. its not trust me.

Are you kidding. Thank you so much for this series where the heros are dyslexic kids. Bummer. Thank you for making it available on the kindle, which is a great tool for dyslexic readers. But were you REALLY lost me was making it so the text-to-speach function doesn't work. Great series, but to limit the access for kids who REALLY need this type of hero in their lives. must have been another nasty game played on us mortals by the "gods".

I liked this book. The children of the Gods are among us and have some of the powers of their diety parent. It can not be compared to Harry Potter they are different stories. If you go into it thinking it will be as good as the Harry Potter series you may be disappointed.I thought it was great and the premise so unique.as far as I've seen. Percy Jackson is special however because his father is Poseidon. This is very rare since Hades, Zeus and Poseidon made a pack to not father mortal children(however they have not kept their pack).

Following his most recent expulsion, Percy and his mother take an impromptu trip to the shore, a place that his mother has always had a fondness for. For one thing your heart doesn't break for Percy the way it did for Harry, so so far, no tears. When he accidentally causes the evaporation of his math teacher with an ink pen, it occurs to Percy that the things happening to him may be more than just rotten luck. Odd things just seem to happen around Percy, things that can't be explained or even believed but Percy never fails to get the blame for them. Percy Jackson simply can't stay out of trouble. Percy kicks butt and shows no fear, just as a hero should. Can't help but compare it to Harry Potter but I don't feel that it was merely riding on HP's coat-tails so to speak since this book had a feel that was very much it's own. It was cute and funny and very entertaining.

Who didn't love studying the Greek myths in school. Their trip is cut short by your average random Minotaur attack that leaves his mother missing and Percy, at his mother's command, running for the safety of Half Blood Camp, a sanctuary for children who are in the same unique situation as Percy- they are the children of gods. He's been kicked out of six schools and in just a moment, he's going to get kicked out of his current one. I love that it is based on Greek Mythology. It was at the seaside that she fell in love with and had a one time whirlwind romance with Percy's father, a man he has never met and who his mother won't tell him anything about. I loved this book. I think that spin, along with it being a great children's/young adult adventure fantasy, really adds to it's appeal. The story is written with a great sense of humor, making it just a really great read.
